Introduction
I have chosen to make a picture gallery about Australia. The first picture that I have chosen is a map of the Australian states and territories. The second is a picture of a boat, simulating the discovery of Australia by the Dutch. The third is a picture of perhaps the most famous animal from Australia, the kangaroo. The fourth is a picture of the gorgeous Great Barrier Reef. The fifth picture is of the famous Sydney Opera House.

Map of Australia
This picture is illustrating the different states of Australia. As you can see, they are separated into states much like they are in the United States. There are six states: Western Australia, Northern Territory, Queensland, New South Wales, and South Australia. This pictures teaches that Australia is broken up into different section, just like every country is broken up. This relates to the other pictures because it lets people see the country that they will be learning about. It is a basic picture of the topic of this blog, Australia.

Founding of Australia
This picture is showing the discovery of Australia by the Dutch. This is a ship similar to the one that most likely came across Australia in 1606. Don't forget, however, that there had already been indigenous people living in Australia for thousands of years before this discovery! This picture teaches students about how Australia was discovered and colonized. This picture relates to the other pictures because it is an image of Australia being found and colonized.
In this
picture, students should look for period-related details. such as on the ship. They should also notice the seemingly unihabited and uncolonized land that is visible in the picture.

Kangaroos of Australia
This is a picture of a kangaroo. The kangaroo is jumping over a body of water. This picture teaches what the kangaroo looks like. It also teaches how the kangaroo moves and what body parts the kangaroo has (notice the long stride and the tail). This picture relates to the other pictures because it is an image of the most "famous" animal to come from Australia. People frequently associate kangaroos with Australia. In this picture, students should look for the long tail on the animal, the small hands,
the erect ears, the large feet, the color of the animal, and the
long stride that the animal has taken. All of these things relate to how the animal lives. It has a long tail for balance, erect ears to listen for danger, large feet to ensure a safe landing after each stride, a brown color so it can conceal itself when necessary, and it takes long strides to move quickly.

Great Barrier Reef
This is a picture showing the Great Barrier Reef. It is located in Northeast Australia. This image shows some of the
3,000 individual reefs that
make up the Great Barrier Reef. This picture teaches students that this reef is not just one thing, but is many different reefs and islands all put together under one name. It also teaches that it is in water, and is a brilliant blue color. This image relates to the other pictures because it is a picture of one of Australia's most famous natural features, and it shows a different aspect to the amazing country of Australia. In this picture, students should look for some individual reefs, differences in the coloration of the water (which indicates differences in what is under the water. These things show how the reef is not just one thing.

Sydney Opera House
This is a picture of the wonderful piece of architecture that the largest city of Australia is famous for: The Sydney Opera House.
It is located in the
state of New South Wales. This image teaches that Australia is known for more than just natural beauty: it also is known for its art. This building, while a piece of art itself, has housed countless artistic events, including opera, theater, and ballet. This also teaches that Australia is a very well established and developed country, based upon this building and the bridge behind it. This relates to the other pictures because it shows yet another example of what Australia is famous for. In this image, students should notice the usual aspects of the building: it is on water, it has a very unique roof, and it appears to made of some unusual materials. All of these things are what make the building so famous.
